Mommy's Little Man

Magnus just turned 9 months old a few days ago, and just look how big he's getting! All those pictures of him with his daddy just don't show it that well, so I thought I'd put it in perspective for you all with a picture of him with me! See what I have to lug around?

The Deer Hunters

Joe shot this 6 point on our property yesterday. (Good job, honey!) He debated on whether or not to shoot it (he had to leave early this morning on a 2 day trip) but, as he pondered, the deer was getting farther and farther away, so he went ahead and dropped him at about 60 yards. Magnus helped congratulate Daddy, while Mommy worked on de-boning the meat and frying some of it up for supper with some biscuits and gravy. I've been cutting up deer meat ever since I could be trusted with a sharp knife! (Note to women: Never tell your husband - or prospective husband - you know how to process any sort of wild game meat! Unless, of course, you REALLY enjoy the endless slicing, dicing, and packaging.) It's kind of ironic how I can handle the mess of deer meat just fine, but boy I hate dealing with chicken! Yes, I'm talking about those ordinary little packets of chicken from the grocery store. All I can think of is, "Ack! Salmonella!!!" Or, "Oh boy, this is going to make the trash can odorous beyond repair..." Anyway, better get to cutting up the rest of that venison... Where is everybody when you need some company??? I sure don't see any girlfriends flocking to my rescue! And this is probably one time that Joe is glad to be gone overnight! (Come on, sweetheart... admit it!! You jumped out of bed to go to work a little bit quicker than usual!) ;-) Naw... actually, all joking aside, I'm really thankful for the meat, and feel blessed to eat such healthy, organic "does a body good" food. And it's tasty, too!

Fall's Last Hurrah

The trees looked like just a few days before we headed off for our Thanksgiving travels, but now they are pretty much completely bare. Winter is upon us! I sure hated to see fall go... the trees all looked so cozy in their warm new colors while the air felt brisk and clear. It's one of my favorite times of year. But now I'm getting excited about Christmas-time!

Thanksgiving

We drove to Ohio (and beyond!) to give "thanks" this year. Joe and I took turns driving/sleeping all night during the 7 1/2 hr trip. We had tanked up our diesel and didn't stop for fuel, food or anything "else"! Magnus didn't even offer to help drive, and just slept the whole way. All of Joe's family was there for the big meal except for one brother who came in late that night. We had a good time with everyone, and Magnus loved the non-stop attention! The day after Thanksgiving, we drove another 7 1/2 hrs down to NC to see my family and some family that we don't get to see very often like Uncle John, Aunt Jan (from Florida), Great Uncle Kinsel and Great Aunt "Cookie" (from Arizona). That was also a great time, and some MORE great food! I love this holiday!!! I didn't get any pictures from the NC trip (stupid me!) but here are some from Ohio. We got home last night at the very sleepy hour of 12:30am, and poor worn-out Joe had to leave on an all-day trip this morning, but Magnus and I had the pleasure of a little Sunday nap. Ahhhhhh...... Home!

Guys CAN fold clothes!!!

When I married Joe, he thought "folding" clothes meant taking them out of the basket and shoving them into a drawer until it was full and would almost shut. Not that there's anything WRONG with that method... but I figured I'd better start now if I'm going to teach Magnus the "proper" way. Here are a couple great shots of him hard at it... he loves to sort everything for me, and as you can see from the picture, he also carefully reads the tags to make sure we used the correct wash setting. What a great little helper!

The Addicts

If ever there were two people who fueled one another's addictions, it's these two! Enablers in the literal sense, Tim and Joe are the worst! From bidding on things for each another on Ebay, to sending emails back and forth containing helicopter links where the subject line says, "You need this!". Or, (my personal favorite) "This is a steal!". There is a glimmer of hope for them though... They both have voluntarily promised me that they won't buy another flying thingy for a WHOLE YEAR! Although, Tim retrospectively added a clause specifying that if he crashed something beyond repair that he was automatically allowed to replace it. These guys are trouble for one another and especially for the budgets! But they're impossible for "we wives" to scold when you see them having so much fun. If you look closely in the second picture you can almost even see where they're joined at the hip!

All grins and gums...

Well, he's not ALL gums... as of today! His first tooth is officially popping through! Congratulations Magnus! Ready for that steak dinner at Outback now?

Can I pinch an inch yet, Mom?

Magnus seems pretty proud of his
paunch! It's no great wonder that his pants will hardly button!

Daddy's Boy

Magnus thinks playing with his daddy is just the greatest thing ever! He gets so excited when Joe gets home from a trip... he nearly wiggles out of my arms squealing and bouncing up and down. It is so cute! He always seems happiest when both Daddy and Mommy are home and we can all be together.
